George T. Heard, Sr.
President & CEO
After retiring as a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Operator for 28 years, I currently serve as a broker and wholesaler for my company, GTH Ventures which is designed to find privvate sector lenders for individuals looking to rehab properties. I take great pleasure in explaining the concept behind transitional hope sites for their purpose.
I'm often asked why I chose to start and open transitional housing for men and women. While I have not suffered from addiction personally, I have experienced many personal encounters that have had a direct impact on me.
My father, unfortunately, was an alcoholic who struggled with alcoholism for many years. As a result of his addiction, he ultimately suffered from a number of ailments associated with the disease. I have also had the unfortunate experience of watching the ravaging effects of my brother's drug addiction and how it takes over a person's mind and body. In both cases, it was devastating for me. I lost my father and I miss him terribly.
My goal is to purposefully bring about change in our communities, event if it's starting with a few people at a time. I'm doing so by providing these individuals with a keen sense of hope, and by helping them to take steps towards self empowerment.
This starts with providing a roof over their head and the necessary tools they need to start a new life, which creates a new and positive path for a brighter future. For all of the support and many strong efforts, a sincere and special thank you to all of my relatives, friends and sponsors. Thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart for coming out and supporting my goals.
